Previously, the miners tunnelled their way through the mine with hammer and tong; today, everything worth knowing about silver and copper mining can be learnt in the Wildschönauer Experience Mine on a really clear guided tour. Having slumbered like Sleeping Beauty for 130 years, the silver mine at Thierbach-Lehenlahn awoke to new life in 1991. Brothers Peter and Manfred Weißbacher adapted a mediaeval mining labyrinth into an interesting viewing mine, where the historic look back at the mining tradition can be experienced “live” on the original stage. A fairytale mine for children and a special exhibition of valuable local precious stones round off the experience.

Special information
Special show “Precious stones from the Tyrol’s mountains” – Rare-Beautiful-Precious
The former Thierbach silver mine was in operation from 1790 to 1861 before passing into obscurity. In 1990 it was turned into a visitor mine by Peter and Manfred Weißbacher in a private initiative and opened in 1991. The mine lies on the municipal road between Thierbach and Kundl-Saulueg. As mentioned above, particular reference is made to the exhibition of various valuable Tyrolean precious stones (rock crystal, Zillertal garnet, etc.) inside the mine; The visitor mine has been recognised by the State of Tyrol as a museum and is considered a typical, representative example of mediaeval Tyrolean mining.
