The Carving School in Elbigenalp does more than just carving. Sculptors, painters, gilders and sign makers learn their handicraft here in a creative atmosphere. On a visit to the school, you can peek over their shoulders and get the artists to part with a few trade secrets. As for everything in life, the same is true here: practice makes perfect! The handicraft trainees undergo training for four years. The plastic designs are created using wood as well as earthenware, plastilin modelling paste, plaster and stone. One area of focus is on the implementation of the students’ own designs. Imitation is difficult, but it is possible to view the works of art in the exhibition and purchase favourite pieces.
