The Hofburg in Innsbruck is one of the three most important cultural buildings in Austria, alongside the Hofburg in Vienna and Schönbrunn Castle. Duke Sigmund the Coin Rich had it built by expanding the existing castle grounds. It was later the residence of Emperor Maximilian (the Bavarian Regent), then the Hapsburgs again, and for a short time of Tyrolean folk hero Andreas Hofer. Wonderful gala rooms, such as the Riesensaal, the Gardesaal, the Empress Elisabeth Apartment, the Chinese Room and the Hofburg Chapel bear impressive witness to the power and wealth of these former dynastic ages. The same complex also houses the famous Café Sacher, where the lovely impressions can be discussed in style over coffee and cake.
How to get there
